As you all know, we are to make a post about a disease that we are interested in or have a personal connection with.
When she was about twenty-five, my mom was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. It was a huge struggle for our family. Things were very hard because nobody was at knowledge with the fact that my mother was a drug addict. Hepatitis C is a disease that is transmitted by infected blood, so using dirty needles is a huge factor. It can also be transmitted through blood by just tattoos, piercings, or sharing things like razors or toothbrushes. Hepatitis C can also be sexually transmitted, but it's very uncommon.
Hepatitis C is a disease that infects your liver primarily. It can also mess with your stomach acid production. My moms case includes the stomach acid issues. Her stomach produces to much acid and her stomach was at a point where it was basically eating its self away. She has permanent damage to her stomach and used to have to go to the doctors often. She is a lot better now, but she will have Hep-C for the rest of her life. Many cases are curable using antivirals, but sometimes, with severe cases,  it just doesn't work. It is a potentially life threatening disease, but my moms case isn't "serious enough to be considered fatal".
I wanted to write about Hepatitis C because its a very common disease, but can very easily be avoided. Making right and smart decisions like not using drugs, and always making sure that your surroundings are sanitized when it's really important are good ways to prevent getting Hepatitis C.
